National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

Missouri Participation in NAEP 2006-2007 School Year

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) 2007 includes the following assessments:

Subject Area

Grades

Mathematics

4, 8

Reading

4, 8, and 12

Writing

8, 12

The national and state reading, math and writing assessments will assess what students know and can do in reading, mathematics and writing using multiple-choice, short- and extended-constructed response questions.  Various special studies may be included in some schools; however, if so, will be integrated into the overall assessment.

A NAEP contractor (Westat, Inc.) selects schools to be included in the sample from the Common Core of Data using a multi-stage, stratified-random sampling method.  Each student selected for participation will take only one assessment.  The assessments will be conducted at three grade levels (4, 8 and 12)).  All subjects require 90 minutes (including instructions, distribution and collection of materials).  NAEP field staff will keep track of all assessment materials and will visit the sampled school to administer NAEP on the scheduled assessment day. (sometime during the January 22 – March 2, 2007, testing window)

The Missouri NAEP 2007 sample includes 4th grade students in 129 schools, 8th grade students in 133 schools, and 12th grade students in eleven schools.
