The Discretionary Grants’ section will conduct a Connect Pro Webinar on the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act on April 6, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. 

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (Subtitle B—Education for Homeless Children and Youth), reauthorized in January 2002, ensures educational rights and protections for children and youth experiencing homelessness.

The webinar will provide participants with an overview of the key provisions of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.  Topics to be discussed include the causes of poverty and exploring how poverty affects children, the basic concepts of the McKinney-Vento Act, the definition of homelessness and how it impacts the various responsibilities of the LEA.  In addition, we will have a brief overview of the 2009-2010 subgrant process.
