The SIOP Model & English Language Learners (ELL)

Although the MELL program has not finalized its plans for building capacity for the SIOP Model in Missouri schools, they want to inform you about some proposed programs.

In fall, 2008, MELL will provide two-year technical assistance to selected schools that are implementing the SIOP model within their building.   To build statewide SIOP capacity, MELL will support the Pearson-trained, on-site coaches with additional trainings and assist these coaches in creating SIOP professional development for their faculty.  

One of the selection criteria for this technical assistance to schools is for a school to send a team (consisting of a building administrator, designated SIOP-coach, and an alternate SIOP-coach) to a Pearson SIOP I Institute before September 2008.

MELL has arranged for a SIOP I Institute to be held in St. Louis, Missouri on May 29-31, 2008 (although the team may attend any Pearson SIOP I Institute before September 2008). For the next two weeks, registration for the Pearson SIOP I Institute in St. Louis will be open only for Missouri educators.  This is a national training that will sell out soon after the February 29 deadline for Missouri educators has passed, so we encourage you to register soon!
