1.  Free resource from Missouri educator/author William Krause has written a resource book on the opossum. It is available in an electronic medium and he is donating the resource materials to the media centers of all middle and junior high schools in Missouri. The resource materials are listed below.

1. A 10 minute DVD on the opossum    2. A 70 page ebook on the opossum  3. A 50 minute DVD on the white-tailed deer

All are educational--- directed at the younger viewer and reader as additional resource materials for them.  To find them one can link to his web site at www.missouri.edu/~pathwjk

There are 62 citations so go to the following: The opossum DVD is citation 52: The Opossum: Its Amazing Story (the e-book) is citation 53: and the DVD on the white-tailed deer is citation 62.

All can be viewed by video-steaming or can be downloaded free of charge to whoever would like to have them. He has the facilities to provide any of the media centers with these DVDs and CDs if they would like to have them to put on the shelf at their home facilities. They only have to e-mail him KrauseW@health.missouri.edu and he would be more than happy to provide them to whatever media center is interested in having them.

The Institute of Public Policy at the University of Missouri – Columbia will conduct focus groups with library staff in five locations to discuss how LSTA funds have been used in Missouri. The focus groups are an opportunity for library staff and directors to provide feedback about how LSTA funds have been spent for the last few years.

A minimum of 8 participants and a maximum of 15 is required for a successful focus group. Below, you’ll see the locations where focus groups will be held. 5.  The MASL Readers Award Task Force is currently soliciting suggestions for names for our new children’s choice award for 6th-8th grade students.  To participate,

·          Poll your 6th-8th grade students for suggestions of a name for a Missouri reader award for these upper grades.  The suggestions must have a Missouri connection.

·          Ask the students to vote on their favorite from the list submitted.

·          Submit the final/top name to your Region Chair by December 1.

·          The Region Chairs will tally all names submitted and narrow down to the one with the most recommendations.

·          The Region Chairs will submit the final selection to the Task Force Chair by December 15.  All submissions must include the name of the region chair and their region.

·          The membership will then have the opportunity to vote on the final name for the new award.  This voting will be done online at our MASL website sometime in February or March.  The exact dates will be sent out on this list serve sometime toward the end of January.

This is an exciting step for MASL and the Task Force looks forward to your participation.
