Course Descriptions for Art Courses
- Art B– Kindergarten
In this course, the student will be introduced to basic art concepts including color, line, and shape. The student will proceed to work on his fine motor skills and explore his own artistic inclinations and abilities. Specific activities include painting, drawing with crayons and chalk, painting with watercolors, weaving, and craft projects.
o Art C– First Grade
In this course, the student will review and expand his understanding of color, line, and shape. Texture and the concept of three-dimensional forms will also be introduced. Specific activities include drawing, cutting, creating designs, and constructing with paper.
o Art D– Second Grade
In this course the student will be provided with many opportunities to practice and extend lessons learned in the previous courses. The course teaches techniques of observing and appreciating art. The course further develops creative skills as the student continues to gather knowledge on how to draw, paint, and create art projects.
o Art E– Third Grade
In this course, the student will continue his exploration and appreciation of famous paintings. He will delve deeper into drawing techniques such as perspective, color, pattern, balance, and symmetry. In addition to expanding procedural knowledge, he will secure a better understanding of the essential art elements and fundamental design principles.
o Art F– Fourth Grade
In this course, the student will be provided with many opportunities to practice and extend his use of an assortment of art media. Artists utilize numerous materials and supplies to produce artworks, much like the student has done during earlier courses. He will further develop his creative skills as he continues to gather knowledge on how to draw, paint, and create art projects. The student will experience creative freedom and a sense of responsibility by interacting with and often selecting multiple art media. Also, while participating in the Picture Study lessons, the student will be taught techniques of observing and appreciating art.
o Art G– Fifth Grade
In this course, the student will focus on different art techniques. Specific techniques that are covered include contour, naturalism, murals, and linear perspective. The student will also continue to foster his own creativity through drawing and painting activities.
