Formative Assessment
Read the following story to answer the questions below.
Middle school football was great, but the training was hard. I would ride my bike five miles to work out with the team every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The ride was great exercise, but the swooshing by of the cars always took me by surprise. What always scared me most, though, was the loud bleep of the honking horns of my friends’ parents’ cars. It seemed as though the cars laughed at me for having to ride my bike.
Arriving at the gym a little early, I could hear the clinking and clanking of weights being lifted. When I dropped the weights after my routine, my arms felt as light as whipped cream. That was the most fun part of practice. Then we had to run. The tough, tiring track seemed to go on for miles, turning my feet into throbbing bricks. After a breather, I would hop back on my bike for the ride home.
