Borrowed Inspiration Assignment

Poetry can inspire us in our thinking, our feeling, and in our writing. Choose one of the poems that you have discovered during our inquiry into poetry of social commentary as a model for an original poem. Borrow a line, phrase, and pattern of words or any other element of the poem which provides you with an idea for a poem of your own.

Example: Gwendolyn Brooks’ poem We Real Cool has the line, We die soon. I might borrow that line, pattern and the rhyme scheme to start my own poem with:

“Lie soon, fly soon, die soon/

“We just listen to our times”,
