Formative Assessment Scoring Guide

Divide students into two groups. Students are given the map to Pizza Parlor handout showing the location of a pizza parlor and a specific delivery location. Students write the directions from the pizza parlor to the delivery location. (Tell students not to write the name of the person who owns the house where the pizza is to be delivered. Instead, write how to get to the house.)  When the directions are written, two students will sit back-to-back (one from group A and one from group B.) Each student will be given a blank map. Student A will read directions to Student B. Student will follow the directions without asking questions by drawing a line following the route on the map. When student A is finished, the students switch roles. When the activity is complete, students check their maps to see if they delivered the pizza to the correct house.

Students in group A have the pizza delivery location marked as Joe Angle’s house.  Students in group B will have the pizza delivery location marked as Ann John’s house.
