The Special Needs Section’s overall responsibility and mission is to assure that individuals with disabilities and other Missouri special populations are provided quality support programs and/or services so they may succeed in career education.

The scope of work performed by the Special Needs Section extends beyond the public secondary and postsecondary education institutions to other state and local agencies that promote training and/or employment. Emphasis is placed on identifying special needs that exist for an individual or group of individuals and designing, promoting and evaluating programs and/or services to allow all persons the opportunity to benefit from employment training.

Technical assistance, professional development and grants management are some of the duties of the Special Needs Section. These activities and others are provided in an effort to assure that equal access is provided for all Missourians throughout their transition from school to work.
