Educator of the Year

This award is given in the following areas:  Vocational Resource Educator (VRE)/Counselor or Vocational Evaluator.  The purpose of these awards is to recognize an individual for an outstanding performance of his/her duties in a particular area.  This award is designed to recognize an instructor that is not a traditional classroom teacher.

Teacher of the Year

This award is given in the following areas:  Basic Skills Instructor or Skills Related Educator.  The purpose of these awards is to recognize an individual for an outstanding performance of his/her duties in a particular area.  This award is designed to recognize an instructor who works within the classroom setting.


Generally the nominees for the aforementioned awards are nominated within their division of MSNA but it is not a requirement. Anyone can nominate if they so desire (The requirements to nominate a person in this category include: a typed application, minimum of three (3) typed letters of recommendation, and they must be a member of ACTE, Missouri ACTE, and MSNA and in before the deadline).

Indirect Support Service

This award is given in recognition of a person who has been beneficial in supporting the special needs students in your program. For example, sending school Learning Disabilities Teacher, High School Counselor, High School Principal, etc. This person cannot be employed as a Career and Technical Teacher. This category is exempted from the professional organization membership rule. (The requirements to nominate a person in this category include a typed application, three (3) letters of recommendation, and in before the deadline).

Direct Support Service

This award is similar to the Indirect Support Service award except it has been designed to recognize individuals who have been supportive of the special needs students within the Career and Technical School setting who are not Career and Technical special needs instructors. For example: Welding Instructor, Health Occupations Instructor, Director, etc. (The requirements to nominate a person in this category include: a typed application, a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation, and they must be a member of ACTE, Missouri ACTE, and their Missouri ACTE affiliate division, all of which must be in before the deadline).

Linda Beachboard Beginning Teacher

This award is similar to the Teacher of the Year Award except that it recognizes an individual that has taught least than five years as a Career and Technical special needs teacher. (The requirements to nominate a person in this category include: a typed application, minimum of three (3) typed letters of recommendation, and they must be a member of ACTE, Missouri ACTE, and MSNA and in before the deadline).

Commitment to Excellence

This award is a combination of the "Direct Support Service Award" and the "Linda Beachboard Beginning Teacher Award". This award recognizes 1st or 2nd year Career and Technical teacher, who are not special needs educators, who are "committed" to working with special populations. (The requirements to nominate a person in this category include: a typed application, a minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation, and they must be a member of ACTE, Missouri ACTE, and their Missouri ACTE affiliate division, all of which must be in before the deadline).

Distinguished Service for Community Involvement or Educational Achievement

This award is in recognition of an individual(s) who had gone above and beyond the call of duty. This could represent a specific cause on behalf or the special needs student, a special program, -- lasting a week, month, semester, year, etc. This person could be a teacher, administrator, congressman, community leader, store manager, etc. (Requirements to nominate are typed applications, three (3) letters of recommendation, and mailed in before the deadline.)
