Lamar Team Wins Ford AAA Student Auto Skills Championship; Team Will Represent Missouri at Nationals

Congratulations to Lamar Area Vocational Technical School’s Automotive Technology students Dwight Niehoff and Brenten McMains for taking first place in the Missouri AAA/Ford Auto skills competition held May 12 at the Kansas City Speedway. The students, led by instructor is Rick Piper, competed against nine other top teams of high school students from Missouri schools by diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic bugs that were installed on the 10 identical 2012 Mustangs. Niehoff and McMains will represent Missouri in the national competition to be held at Ford Motor Company headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan in June. The competition is sponsored annually by Ford Motor Company and the American Automobile Association and is held in all 50 states.


Missouri School Plant Manager Workshops

Workshops for Missouri school Maintenance and housekeeping staff will be provided this summer by DESE and the Missouri School Plant Manager's Association (MSPMA). The workshops will be held at five locations throughout the state.


Teachers Sought to Field Test New Transportation Careers Lesson Plans

Innovative teachers from all subject matter areas of 6th through 12th grade students are being sought to test, evaluate and provide written feedback on new Transportation Careers lesson plans. Teachers from Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Texas, Oklahoma, and Virginia submitted content for this project, which was funded by the United States Department of Transportation.
