Goals
Guidance and Counseling Goals for 11-12
The vision of the guidance and counseling section of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is that all schools will fully implement guidance and counseling programs that support the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students leading them to successful transitions into post-secondary education or the workforce.
Specific goals for the 2011-12 school-year to support the implementation of the vision
include but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and revising the guidance curriculum to align with the state format
- Developing and implementing on-line professional development opportunities for school counselors, faculty, and administrators
- Continuing to implement and support a state-wide guidance system of support to assist all school districts in fully implementing their comprehensive guidance and counseling programs
- Ensuring that all new counselors are involved in the mentoring program
- Promoting the Gysbers and Success Awards for schools fully implementing
their comprehensive guidance programs
- Improving the usability of the Guidance e-Learning Center
- Developing standards for career center student services program
- Continuing to promote the implementation Missouri Connections
- Designing a summer institute on Military Career Pathways 101
- Improving the implementation of Individual Student Planning and the development of personal plans of study
- Continuing support for and participation in the New Counselor Institute
- Implementing a strand for Area Career Center Student Services in the New Counselor Institute
