Guidance and Placement Services
Goals
Our overarching goal in the Guidance and Placement Section is to promote the full implementation of comprehensive guidance programs in Missouri Schools. In order to do this we must promote the effective implementation of:
- the guidance curriculum
- the individual planning process
- the responsive service process
- the system support process
- the effective implementation of the accountability process with a focus on Program + Personnel = Results
Each year DESE reviews the current status of that goal and then establishes short and long-term objectives to help schools achieve full implementation of their comprehensive guidance programs. For 2008-09 some of the short term objectives will be:
- To develop on-line professional development opportunities for school counselors, teachers, and administrators
- To work with the State-writing team to develop on-line resources for Responsive Services and System Support
- To develop an on-line training module for results-based evaluation
- To enhance the state-wide mentoring program with an induction system
- To ensure that all new counselors are involved in the mentoring program
- Implement the Gysbers Award and the Success Award for schools fully implementing their comprehensive guidance programs
- Develop on-line/Web-based learning modules for the Comprehensive Guidance Program.
- Introduction to the Comprehensive Guidance Program for Administrators
- Introduction to the Comprehensive Guidance Program for Teachers
- Introduction to the Internal Improvement Review Document (IIR)
