Three possible influences on the increase in student progression in FY2009 include: the economic situation in the U.S. that influences the quality and motivation of our students, AEL program improvement projects, and the STAR reading project.

Entered Employment

The last half of Fiscal Year 2009 saw an unusual increase in the number of adults entering the AEL program in need of assistance to prepare for employment, undoubtedly due to the economy. Local AEL programs' partnerships with their local WIA Title I program operators helped these individuals find employment.

Secondary School Diploma or GED

Of the 4,016 participants who attempted the GED Tests, 3,572 passed (89%). Almost 1,000 more adults took the GED Tests in Fiscal Year 2009 than in Fiscal Year 2008. There also was a 2% increase in the pass rate.
