EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, with a major in family and consumer sciences education from an accredited college or university.

 

Three years of experience as a teacher of family consumer sciences and human services education and has been an advisor for a FCCLA chapter.

 

(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Extensive knowledge of the field of family consumer sciences and human services education.

 

Thorough knowledge of the principles, modem teaching methods, practices and current trends in family consumer sciences and human services education.

 

Knowledge of curriculum planning as applied to family consumer sciences and human services education.

 

Ability to encourage the use of new teaching methods, technology and new curriculum materials as applied to family consumer sciences and human services education.

 

Ability to relate positively to people and work effectively with youth and adults, and to lead conferences and workshops with professional personnel.

 

Ability to analyze and effectively apply evaluation standards to family consumer sciences and human services education programs.

 

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local school officials and associates.

 

The official domicile for this position is Jefferson City.  Travel is required by the employee in one's own vehicle, and mileage expenses will be reimbursed at the approved rate.

 

 

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

 

Assist in the development of curriculum material for instructors of family consumer sciences and human services education at all levels.

 

Participate in planning, presenting, and management of teacher pre-service, in-service, and teacher /student leadership development.

 

Work with college and university representatives by speaking to students, participating in conferences and serving on advisory committees.

 

Assist in the identification of research needs, interpretation and implementation of research to improve instructional programs.

 

Provide technical assistance in Divisional coordination of programming and use of funds.

 

Serve as State Advisor of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and liaison between regional, state and national FCCLA associations. 

 

Manage, in accordance with approved policies, Missouri FCCLA records and finances.

 

Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate annual leadership development activities such as the Fall Leadership Conference (approximately 1,200 participants), State Leadership Conference (approximately 2,000 participants), National Leadership Conference (state delegation of 275 participants), Legislative Shadowing Program (approximately 60 participants), and two State Executive Council meetings (17 state officers).

 

Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate state FCCLA competitive events for more than 800 students each year.  Create new Missouri events as needed. 

 

Advise the Missouri Association FCCLA Alumni & Associates.

 

Promote the family consumer sciences and human service education programs and FCCLA through use of social networking tools, newsletters, and presentations.

 

Assist local units in program improvement, planning, implementing, promoting and evaluation of family consumer sciences and human services programs.

 

Perform other related work as assigned.

BENEFITS (For a Full-Time Position)

 

ANNUAL LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month for new full-time employees, longer term State employees can earn more. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.

 

SICK LEAVE:  Accrue 10 hours per month.  Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.

 

HOLIDAYS:  12 holidays per year.

 

RETIREMENT:  Coverage provided through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).

 

LIFE INSURANCE:  Term life insurance coverage, equal to one times employee's annual salary, through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System.

 

OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE:  Optional term life insurance available with maximum coverage of six times member’s annual salary.  Plans are also offered for spouse and dependents. Premiums paid by employee.

 

CAFETERIA PLAN:  Easy tax savings on employee’s cost for qualified payroll-deducted insurance plans, medical care, and dependent care.

 

HEALTH PLANS:  Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first day of the following month after employment.

 

DENTAL PLANS:  Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.

 

VISION PLAN:  Vision Service Plan (VSP) is available. 

 

DEFERRED COMPENSATION:  A payroll deduction deferred compensation plan available to defer taxes until retirement by investing in mutual funds and a fixed income account is currently provided.
