Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, communications, journalism, English, graphic design or a closely related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience performing similar communications tasks as listed above.
(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience in working with web-based content management systems.
Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Strong writing, grammar and editing skills. Knowledge of Associated Press style.
Demonstrated ability to provide attention to detail, effectively coordinate multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively for various audiences and a broad range of communication channels.
Assist the Communications Coordinator in executing the overall communications function for the Department and the statewide Top 10 by 20 plan.
Work with individual offices to keep website content current. Familiarity with website management and design is strongly preferred.
Manage the Department's social media presence and oversee the social media team in creating regular content for Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Coordinate e-communications projects including the creation and distribution of the Department's monthly e-newsletter, and the Commissioner's monthly video message.
Write and edit news releases, video scripts, etc. as needed. Perform light research when necessary to ensure that content is accurate and factual.
Work with Department personnel to coordinate, write, edit, design and/or proofread publications, both printed and electronic, for multiple audiences.
Guide and assist the Communications Assistant as needed with writing/editing and design/layout for marketing materials.
Work with the Communications team to ensure Department procedures, policies and branding guidelines are followed by Department staff. Assist Department staff with questions regarding procedures, policies and branding guidelines.
Develop successful relationships with Department staff to improve publications, communications and services provided by the Department.
Carry out special projects as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

ANNUAL LEAVE: Accrue 10 hours per month for new full-time employees, longer term State employees can earn more. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.
SICK LEAVE: Accrue 10 hours per month. Prorated leave for part-time employees in eligible positions.
HOLIDAYS: 12 holidays per year.
RETIREMENT: Coverage provided through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).
LIFE INSURANCE: Term life insurance coverage, equal to one times employee's annual salary, through the Missouri State Employees Retirement System.
OPTIONAL LIFE INSURANCE: Optional term life insurance available with maximum coverage of six times member’s annual salary. Plans are also offered for spouse and dependents. Premiums paid by employee.

HEALTH PLANS: Employer-paid/subsidized plans available the first day of the following month after employment.
DENTAL PLANS: Delta Dental insurance coverage is available.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: A payroll deduction deferred compensation plan available to defer taxes until retirement by investing in mutual funds and a fixed income account is currently provided.
